Basics of Therapeutic Training
Today, Francisco, Kelly and me went to observe a class in physiotherapy course.
I decided to observe the same aspects that I observed in my first observation.
- Learning environment:
How is the classroom organization? Can this organization facilitate the learning process?
- Teacher's Methods:
What is the methodology used by the teacher? Is it focused on students? Is it an activation methodology? What learning theory is present in the methodology?
- Behavior of students:
How students behave in class? How is the participation and interest of them?
And here are my observations:
- Subject:
The mechanisms and goals of gym training.
- Learning environment:
The room is organized like a little circle. There are just 10 students and they all can see each other. So, this organization is good to use for a PBL approach.
- Teacher's methods
The teacher uses the Problem-based Learning method. The students are active in the process. She just interrupt their discussion to add some important points or to make them go back to the "line". The students have to study before come to the class. They had a task on last class and they searched about this task and discuss in the class to make a document. There's a chair and a secretary in the group who are supposed to conduct the class and make some notes respectively.
This method enhances the socio-constructivist aspects of learning.
- Behavior of students
Students know the methodology very well and start to work since the beginning, guided by the coach and with some little instructions from the teacher.
At the beginning they are a little confused but the final result is excelent.
They discuss the aspects about the task and they organize their ideas together.
They are very interested about the subject.
There's no parallel talking during the class.
- Final considerations
At the end they proposed a new task for the next class by themselves. THEY CHOSE EHAT THEY WANT TO LEARN ABOUT.
I've asked some questions for the students. First of all I asked if the other subjects are also in a PBL approach and they told me that yes, they are a little different but all in PBL.
We also asked if they like that method and everyone says that likes, because they are active in the process and they don't lose their personality in the university.
Another question was if they knew that the whole course was in PBL method before they entered the university and they told us that yes.
The PBL approach was implemented in the physiotherapy courses in 1997.
Could we design a whole curricula in PrBL or PBL? I really don't know, but I'm not afraid to try and to fail. That's why I am writing this blog, because with more help it would be easier.
Obs .: The English teacher came to the classroom with their physiotherapy teacher. Some English classes are just observation of other PBL classes, but the students have to talk in English.

Hoje, Francisco, Kelly e eu fomos observar uma aula no curso de fisioterapia.
Antes da aula fiz minhas anotações e decidi observar os mesmos aspectos que observei na minha primeira observação.
- Ambiente de aprendizagem:
Como é a organização da sala de aula? Esta organização facilita o processo de aprendizagem?
- Metodologia do professor:
Qual é a metodologia utilizada pelo professor? É focado nos estudantes? É uma metodologia de ativação? Qual teoria de aprendizagem está presente na metodologia?
- Comportamento dos alunos:
Como os alunos se comportam em sala de aula? Como é a participação e interesse deles?
E aqui estão as minhas observações:
- Assunto da aula:
Mecanismos e efeitos da musculação/aeróbica
- Ambiente de aprendizagem:
A sala é organizada como um pequeno círculo. Há apenas 10 alunos e todos eles podem ver uns aos outros. Assim, esta organização é excelente para ser utilizada em uma abordagem PBL.
- Metodologia da professora:
A professora utiliza o método de aprendizagem baseada em problemas (PBL). Os alunos são ativos no processo. Ela apenas interrompe a discussão dos alunos para adicionar alguns pontos importantes, ou para fazê-los voltar para o assunto (não que eles conversem sobre outra coisa, mas as vezes saem do foco). Os alunos têm de estudar antes de vir para a classe. Eles tinham uma tarefa na última aula e procuraram sobre essa tarefa para discutir na classe e redigir um documento. Há uma líder e uma secretária no grupo para conduzir a classe e fazer as anotações, respectivamente.
Este método aumenta os aspectos sócio-construtivistas da aprendizagem.
- Comportamento dos alunos
Os alunos sabem a metodologia muito bem e começar a trabalhar desde o início, guiada pelo treinador e com algumas instruções pouco da professora.
No início eles possuem uma pequena dificuldade para entrar no ritmo, porém o resultado final é excelente.
Eles discutem os aspectos sobre a tarefa e organizam suas idéias em conjunto.
Eles demonstram estar realmente interessados no conteúdo.
- Considerações finais
No final, eles propuseram uma nova tarefa para a próxima classe. Isso mesmo, eles propuseram a tarefa para a próxima aula e irão estudar sobre o tema para novamente discutir e elaborar outro documento.
Nós fizemos algumas perguntas para os alunos. Primeiro de tudo eu perguntei se os outros conteúdos também são em uma abordagem PBL e eles me disseram que sim, eles são um pouco diferentes, mas todos em PBL.
Também perguntamos se eles gostam desse método e todo mundo diz que gosta, porque eles são ativos no processo e eles não perdem a sua personalidade na universidade, eles podem falar o que acham e, principalmente, utilizar suas experiências e seu conhecimento prévio.
Outra questão era se eles sabiam que todo o curso seria no método PBL antes de entrarem na universidade e eles nos disseram que sim.
A abordagem PBL foi implementada nos cursos de fisioterapia, em 1997.
A pergunta que não quer calar é: Nós conseguiríamos organizar um currículo todo em PrBL ou PBL? Eu realmente não sei, mas eu não tenho medo de tentar e falhar. É por isso que eu estou escrevendo este blog, porque quanto mais pessoas partilharem destas ideias, mais fácil será de tentar alguma mudança real em nosso ensino profissional e tecnológico. Conto com a ajuda de vocês que estão lendo para socializar cada informação e tentar correr por uma educação melhor.
Obs.: A professora de inglês acompanhou a aula juntamente com a professora de fisioterapia. Algumas aulas de inglês são apenas a observação de outras classes na metodologia PBL, mas os alunos têm de falar em Inglês.
