Observation #5 - Leinolan Koulu part IV - Math classes for the third graders

Leinolan Koulu - Math classes II

This observation is from an Math Lesson to the third graders. Some general observation about the Learning Environments can be found on the previous post about Leinolan Koulu.
As my other observations, I decided to look more in some aspects: Learning Environments, Teaching Methods and Students' Behaviour.

- Learning Environments:
There were 11 students in the classroom.
The classroom is quite traditional, but the students sit in pairs.
It's almost the same classroom than the other observations in Leinolan Koulu. You can check how it is on the previous posts about this school.

- Teacher Methods:
The teacher asked me to make a short presentation to introduce myself in English and she didn't even need to translate to them, and they started to learn English on last August.
She asked the students to go to the interactive board to do some exercises.
After the exercises in the interactive board, the teacher explained some other exercises from their textbook and they did it in pairs. After doing the exercise, the teacher didn't correct them, they looked for the right answers in the teacher's book.
After everyone have finished their exercises, they have played a memory game in the interactive board.

- Students' Behaviour:
The students always raise their hands when they want to tell the answer of any exercise or ask some questions.
They were very motivated when they were doing exercises in the interactive board and were very quiet while doing exercises on the textbook.
There weren't any side talks.
All the students did their exercises and correct them.

-Final Considerations:
There were just eleven students in the classroom because the school staff thinks that math and English are the most difficult subjects for the kids, so they split the classes.
They were so excited to play the memory game after the class. It sounds like an award to them and it's very good to have some extrinsically motivation.
The teacher material is excellent and the teacher also know very well how to use the interactive board, not to just project some slides.
She also works as a developer of this material, that is very interesting and interactive. Brazilian PNLD program is starting to be something like this, and it is excellent. Although we don't have interactive boards in every classroom and we also don't have a teacher training, it is a little start. We just need to improve it.

- Metodologia do professor:
