EDUCON

EDUCON is an international conference organized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers that provides a forum for academic, research and industrial collaboration on global engineering education.

This is the sixth EDUCON and the main subject was "Engineering Education towards Excellence and Innovation".

The TAMK staff organized our participation in this event and I will talk a little more about it.

The congress started very well: The opening was made by Toomas Hendrik Ilves, one Estonian family Swedish, formed at Columbia University in the United States and Master in Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania. Ahh... I also remember that he is the current President of Estonia. Yes! The President of Estonia opened the event with a speech showing the importance of education and science for this country, which from 1992 until today managed to lift its economy and significantly improve their education. To get a small taste, the last PISA Estonia appears in 6th place in science, just behind China (Shanghai and Honk Kong), Singapore, Japan and Finland. In Mathematics Estonia appears even in front of Finland.

A striking phrase of the President was: "I am very happy to be here discussing education in recent years I'm just attending conferences where the main subject is the war.." This is due to the current situation between Russia and Ukraine.

Another interesting fact was the absence of policy table. We went to a congress where the country's president made the opening but without formalities. Here comes the question? Why do we have to make a table of authorities and thank politicians and officials present? We have to thank our students and ourselves because we believe in education, and that gratitude should not be done at a conference but in the day-to-day.

Congress does not have posters section, all works are presented in the form of oral communication. Participants from 43 countries showed what they are doing in relation to engineering education and the word that appears more in the speech of speakers is: motivation.

This is the question I have been asking me since I came to Finland. How to motivate my students? I still don't know the answer, I hope to know at least one way to the end of this training.

Esta é a sexta edição da EDUCON e o tema foi: "Educação em Engenharia para a Excelência e Inovação"

O pessoal de TAMK organizou toda a nossa participação neste evento e abaixo irei falar um pouco mais sobre o mesmo.

O congresso começou bem: A abertura foi feita por Toomas Hendrik Ilves, um suéco de família estoniana, formado na Universidade de Columbia nos Estados Unidos e Mestre em Psicologia pela Universidade da Pensilvânia. Ahh... vale lembrar que é o atual Presidente da Estônia. Sim! O presidente da Estônia fez a abertura do evento, e com um discurso mostrando a importância da educação e da ciência para este país, que de 1992 até hoje conseguiu erguer sua economia e melhorar consideravelmente sua educação. Para se ter uma pequena noção, no último PISA a Estônia aparece na 6ª colocação em ciências, ficando atrás apenas de China (Shangai e Honk Kong), Cingapura, Japão e Finlândia. Em Matemática a Estônia aparece inclusive na frente da Finlândia.

Uma frase marcante do presidente foi: "Estou muito feliz em estar aqui discutindo sobre educação. Nos últimos anos só estou participando de conferências onde o principal assunto são as guerras." Isto se deve à situação atual entre Russia e Ucrânia.

Outro fato interessante foi a ausência de mesa diretiva. Fomos a um congresso onde o presidente do país fez a abertura porém sem formalidades. Ai vem a pergunta? Por que temos que fazer uma mesa de autoridades e agradecer a políticos e autoridades presentes? Temos que agradecer aos nossos alunos e a nós mesmos por acreditarmos na educação, e esse agradecimento não deve ser feito em uma conferência e sim no dia-a-dia.

O congresso não possui seção de pôsteres, todos os trabalhos são apresentados na forma de comunicação oral. Participantes de 43 países mostraram o que estão fazendo em relação ao ensino de engenharia e a palavra que mais aparece na fala dos palestrantes é: motivação.

Esta é a pergunta que venho me fazendo desde que cheguei à Finlândia. Como motivar meus alunos? Ainda não sei a resposta, espero saber pelo menos um caminho até o final desta capacitação.
